For more than two decades, My Wild Heaven has been defying the
laws of sonic gravity from their home base in the Tampa Bay area. Formed in
2003, this power trio has engineered a massive, orchestral sound that
completely betrays their three-piece lineup, earning a reputation as one of Florida’s most reliable,
hard-hitting, and original live acts.
Musically, My Wild Heaven operates at the volatile intersection of
classic British proto-punk, theatrical space-rock, and sprawling progressive
rock. Imagine Pete Townshend jamming with Red-era King Crimson aboard a
starship, or David Bowies Spiders From Mars channelled through a Hendrixian
vibe by way of a towering wall of hi-watt Marshall amplifiers. Frontman Bill
Bechtel anchors the band’s sonic identity, effortlessly shifting between
explosive, roaring guitar riffs and the haunting, ghostly textures of the
Mellotron. Beneath this lies a relentless, heavy groove locked down by bassist
Mike Weiler and powerhouse drummer Mirko Soto. Together, Weiler’s grounded
basslines and Soto’s driving, propulsive rhythms provide the perfect sci-fi
pulse to keep the band's soundscapes from drifting completely into orbit.
What truly sets My Wild Heaven apart is their cinematic,
high-concept storytelling. Their songs play out like a Twilight Zone marathon
or a classic Star Trek episode set to a a modern rock soundtrack.
The band's growing studio catalog is populated by vivid narrative
scenarios: bittersweet android love stories, extraterrestrial romances,
grueling tales of post-apocalyptic survival, and mind-bending time travel
adventures. They even find room for the terrestrial and bizarre, weaving tales
of eerie ghost encounters and plotting the perfect bank robbery through the
power of hypnosis.
While mainstream music trends come and go, My Wild Heaven has
spent over twenty years perfecting their unique brand of hi-watt space rock.
They deliver a sensory overload of a live masterclass, transforming local
stages into otherworldly, sensory-rich experiences. They are sonic storytellers
in the truest sense—blending dark, calculated precision with unadulterated rock
and roll energy to prove that great concepts, and fierce rock styling, never
age.

- My Wild Heaven: Strange Euphoria (EP): The latest EP from the Florida-based “aggressive sci-fi rock” trio My Wild Heaven is, indeed, wild. Spanning five tracks over 15 minutes, Strange Euphoria contains songs about -- in the band’s own words: “Insanity triggered by computer communications with ghosts (‘For All We Know’), recurring past-life visions as a WWII B-17 bomber pilot (‘Twelve O’Clock High’), a novice’s first visit to a time-travel agency (‘Triptik for a Time Traveler’), a battered old Gibson ES-345 guitar that channels creative spirits (‘Song in the Strings’) and a lineman’s close encounter with a fleet of UFOs (‘I Have Seen the Saucers’).”
- Obviously, these guys don’t lack creativity. Vocalist, guitarist, Mellotron-ist and songwriter William Bechtel kinda sings like a combination of Lemmy and Ray Davies, and no two songs sound the same. Although brief, Strange Euphoria offers a burst of rock, prog and punk energy. -Reviewer: Michael Popke

My Wild Heaven describes themselves as "Aggressive Sci-Fi Rock, forged from primitive Prog/Metal/Hardcore riffage". "King Crimson meets early-Who meets the Spiders from Mars. Drenched with Mellotrons and madness".
This Tampa based band is made up of; Bill Bechtel on guitar, keyboards, and lead and background vocals, Ed Lowery on drums, and Robert "Red" Redmond on bass. The band has included special guests, like "Jeff Braden (a former student of Bechtel's who contributes the second guitar solo on "The Life and Times of General Jacket"), Ryan Danger on proxy triangle, and Josh Young on jumbus banjo, Irish bouzouki, and additional background vocals".
The recording almost sounds like it comes directly from the 70s. Rocking guitars, vocals and drums with synths surrounding the soundscape. If you need to drift back to the era of fast rocking early punk this might just be your album of choice. "Lil' Pumpkin Porsche", "The Ritual Dance of the Lizards", and the instrumental tracks were the highlights for me. The track list on the CD, and CDBaby.com are not sequenced the same. -Reviewer: Mark Johnson
My Wild Heaven: Laika: My Wild Heaven, aka Bill Bechtel, is an American musician hailing from Tampa Bay, Florida. Laika is a CD single containing the tune "Laika", a tribute to Laika, the first animal to be launched into orbit. The launch of Sputnik 2 occurred on Nov. 3, 1957, and unfortunately Laika died shortly after liftoff due to overheating. "Laika" was issued to commemorate the occasion released by Longview Records. It's a short three-minute tune drenched in dense layers of Mellotron and guitar. The electric sitar also adds a nice touch. It is difficult to give a rating to only one song, but three stars will have to suffice. Hopefully next time there will be a full album to absorb so as to get a bigger picture of where this band is coming from. -Reviewer: Jon Neudorf
